If Coach Would've Put Me In...

Ah the glory days, the times when we can think back on the times when we had a million possibilities. High school. Let me tell you though, there is an amount of time that is too much time for talking about high school, and that amount of time is the 30 minutes that this date lasted.

Who You Gonna Call? 👻

We had been talking for a few days, he asked me out, then never replied. This is a dealbreaker. He still hasn't answered! Guess I won't be going out with him!

"I'm just like a nomad right now..."

Car full of his personal belongings because he just moved up here a few weeks ago and is still between places.

Can't tell me where he lives. My mom is between places right now, my dad has my brother living with him, so I'm just like a nomad right now.

So that means you're homeless, right?

Just Around the Riverbend

The poor guy fell in the stream when he was trying to save a small child's shoe! Not a deal breaker, just a funny date I'm sure neither of us will forget for a long time!

Making a List, Checking it Twice

Do you know what you are looking for in a "future life partner"? Well, if you don't then I recommend going on a date with someone who will read you their entire list (technically an organized spreadsheet) of 36 essential qualities in a future life partner. These qualities include, but are not limited to, shared hobbies, humility, a shared life pace, and an appreciation for stand-up comedy. I apparently didn't make the cut though, because after the date he told me that he doesn't like to rush into decisions about his future life partner, but we could be friends on Facebook.

I Have to Wash My Hair

Here are a few stand-out excuses guys have used as to why they can't go on dates with me.

* He had to go to his friend's mom's funeral earlier that day so he couldn't make it.
* He had an ultimate frisbee game he wanted to play in.
* He had to watch his sister's dog.
* He had to do his laundry
* He forgot
* He got caught up with a movie he was watching

There are more, but I feel like this is a good sampling of the types of witty excuses even guys come up with when rejecting dates.

Clear as Mud

I just got back from a date. We met, surprise, online. Expectations are always cloudy on dates, especially when you've never met. So here's how this date went.

I knew we had tentatively planned on meeting for lunch today. I kept checking back to see if he'd said anything about time or place but he never confirmed. Around lunch time he messaged me asking me if I wanted to go to lunch. I agreed, he offered some options of places to eat and times to meet. We set a time and place and met up. The place we ate is similar to Subway but serves pizza. You go down the line to progressively dress up your pizza. He told me I could go first, but that also meant I got to the end of the line first. When the guy at the cash register asked if I was paying for just the one pizza I had no idea what to respond. I simply said, "I don't know. [Date], are we paying together or separate?" He muttered about doing whatever for a few seconds, so I made the decision for him and said he could buy my pizza for me. I'm nice like that. :) I'm happy to go dutch if it's clarified beforehand but please clarify those expectations before it's time to pay!

I Want to Ride My Bicycle, I Want to Ride My Bike

GUEST BLOGGER!!

I started a new job a few months ago and my coworker has some amazing dating stories! Here's one of my favorites.

This date was a set-up. They had spoken briefly to decide when and where to meet for the date, but didn't know much about each other. My friend arrived at the restaurant and the boy says irritably, "Well finally! I've been waiting forever!" Right off the bat, she knew it was going to be a date to write home about. They got their food, ate, and decided it would be best to end the date there. He had proceeded to be a ray of sunshine throughout the whole date. She was excited to never see him again. When she got up to leave he told her he'd ridden his bike there and was wondering if she'd be willing to put his bike in her car and give him a ride home. His request was declined.

Several years ago I went out with a boy who was sort of in my group of friends. I'd gotten to know him decently well over the last several months and knew he was a nice guy but that I probably wasn't interested. He asked me out and we ended up going to Chipotle then on to the Tulip Festival at Thanksgiving Point. There were a few things that stood out to me on this date and I'd like to present them in list form:
* He was the worst driver I've ever had the pleasure to ride with.
* He spent a good 15-20 minutes telling me about the various types and styles of shoes he has. I believe he said he has over 200 pairs of shoes.
* I realized I'm really not into a man who has that many pairs of shoes.
* The tulips were lovely.

Short, Sweet, and to the Point

One of the recent dates I went on paid for our Jamba Juice with a gift card (I'm so glad he didn't invest too much on the date) then left 20 minutes into the date. I guess when you know, you know!

What's In Your Wallet?

I once went out to dinner with a man who somehow brought up his credit score. He never told me what it was, nor did I reveal mine to him. However, he proceeded to lecture me for a substantial amount of time about how my credit was subpar and to took it upon himself to advise me as to how to increase my credit score. He was an authority on the matter because, well, he had great credit! His credit was so good that someone once commented on it to him and he became a self-proclaimed credit guru. I was sure glad I could have a date where my finances were the main topic of conversation!

Green is the Color

GUEST POST! This story comes from my dear friend's dating history.

Several years ago, the subject of our story worked at a business owned by a family from another country. She was good at her job and helped bring success to the family business. The family grew to appreciate and revere this woman and her various abilities. And thus our story begins.

One day a co-worker and member of this family called her into the main office. She was told they had a request for her. As it turned out, this was more than a simple request. They offered this woman $10,000 a year if she would marry one of the men in the family. They offered to buy her a house, pay her way through school, and they even said she didn't have to live with her husband if she would just marry him. Unfortunately for her finances and his citizenship status, she refused.

He Loves Me, He Loves Me Not...

A few years ago I liked someone. He was mildly interested for a few months, we went out a time or two but it never materialized into anything. He actually shut me down rather harshly at one point. A few months after this ended I had totally moved on, as I thought he had as well. I was over at his apartment one night hanging out with his roommate. This boy walked in from a date that had been mediocre and noticed that I was there. He didn't say hi to anyone but me and was wildly excited that I was there.

A few days go by and I get a random text message from this guy, trying to strike up a conversation. He ended up asking me to go see a movie, seemed to be flirting and I was confused, but enjoyed the attention. We texted more over the days between the asking and the movie but it got to be less and less frequent. The night of the movie arrived and I hadn't heard from him until he picked me up. We went to the movie, he kept his arms firmly crossed the whole time, then he dropped me off without even parking by the curb or getting out of his car. He barely even said goodbye.

Fast forward a few days, his roommate was teasing me about this guy and I told him I wasn't interested in movie-guy, not even considering that this would be a poor decision. That was the WRONG move apparently. Movie-guy called me the next day, super angry that I hadn't told him to his face that I wasn't interested. We had an intense conversation about me not liking him, then it was all over. We were casual friends after this but the days of roller-coaster crushes were over. It was a very strange situation about which I still have many unanswered questions.

Workin at the Carwash

Online dating is fun. You get to meet all sorts of interesting people. One of the dates I got from online dating ended up being one of these people. We met for our first date and ate at a decently nice restaurant (it was no Subway, but I won't judge). The thing that stood out the most for me was how sloppy of an eater this guy was! I was shocked at how much food wasn't making it off the table. He was also rather bad at conversation. Aside from that there wasn't really anything too bad about this guy so I said yes to a second date. I figure that first dates can be hard so if there are no deal breakaz on date one I should give the guy a second chance.

Date two was slightly more interesting. He picked me up this time. His car was filthy on the outside and icky on the inside. The inside mostly had food wrappers and drink spills, nothing too out of the ordinary. His daughter's car seat and several of her toys were also in the car even though he only saw her about every six months. I think he picked up on the messy car thing, because on our way to get ice cream we stopped at a gas station to clean off the windshield.

I am amazed that he was able to get to my house with the amount of gunk that was on the windshield, but he managed it somehow and found that the beginning of the date was the right time to clean it off. He tried using the squeegee but only the sponge part was attached and the squeegee part was missing. I watched him try to figure out what to do for a few seconds before offering my help. He refused, saying he would figure it out himself. He then decided to dip a paper towel in the cleaning fluid and try to wipe clean his windshield. One square inch at a time. I suggested that he use the sponge and his windshield wipers to do the job, and after a few more tedious minutes he took me up on that idea.

As it turns out, this man is an incredibly messy eater. He got ice cream all over himself and the table that evening. The date was equally as boring as the first, and when he called for a third date I politely turned him down. After I had explained that I wasn't interested, he asked me why and what he could do to change himself. I didn't have the heart to tell him that he needs to stop being so messy, so I made sure to reassure him that there is a lovely girl out there for him but it just wasn't me.
